Request for N95 Respirators

For individuals already enrolled in the respiratory protection program or for individuals that need to use a respirator for activities not related to COVID-19 please follow your normal purchasing practices to obtain a N95 respirator.  If you are having difficulties sourcing your normal respirators, please visit the Procurement Services website and follow the guidance for essential supplies.  In ARIBA, there are N95 respirators available to purchase.  If the N95 respirator you source is not the same as the N95 respirator you were fit tested with, please contact Jennifer Kraus (jakraus@purdue.edu) to schedule a Fit Test with your new respirator.  *Please note that a N95 with an exhalation valve cannot be used in areas that require a face mask for COVID-19 protection.

For individuals that are not enrolled in the respiratory protection program but need to use a respirator for workplace hazards, please contact Josh Brown (brow1422@purdue.edu).

For individuals who believe they are medically vulnerable to serious illness and need an N95 please visit the Purdue Human Resources website to complete the self-assessment to start the process.

For researchers that will be unable to maintain social distancing please review the Guidance for Enhanced PPE for Close-Up, Person-to-Person Interactions in Research.  Please note, N95 respirators are not necessary to ensure the safety of individuals in most research settings. In addition, overuse of N95 respirators can divert supplies from areas where the need is critical. Use of N95 respirators in research should be limited to the following situations:

  • Research involving confirmed positive, presumed positive COVID-19 individuals or samples.
  • Disinfection activities with a COVID-19 positive research area.
  • Medical use, including any virus testing.
  • To protect vulnerable Purdue populations assessed as category 3 or lower.
  • Anywhere that previous N95 respirator use was required by a PPE hazard assessment.

N95 respirator use requires enrollment in Purdue’s respiratory protection program, N95 mask fitting by the respiratory protection program and approval by Radiological and Environmental Management.  Please contact Josh Brown (brow1422@purdue.edu) at REM for further guidance.
