Several Nexus researcher’s papers were recently published in a special December 2020 issue of The Journal of Contemporary Research and Education.
The issue, titled “Challenges and Opportunities to Support Water Management Adaptation in Water-Scarce Regions of Peru,” confronted complex water resource challenges in regions where water is scarce, considering both environmental and social aspects. All articles were co-authored by Arequipa Nexus members from Purdue and UNSA.
Overall, the studies offer strategies to overcome challenges associated with these complex issues. In some papers, innovative technologies such as Pilot Smart irrigation systems, 3-D interactive modelling, and remote sensing were used to assess and improve water resource supply systems. Other papers conducted analyses of water resource management infrastructure and found opportunities for improvement in coproduction practices, research partnerships, water resource decision making and risk analysis.
