Last week, families received an invitation to view Purdue Parent & Family Connections video series - titled Purdue Family Videos. The premiere video released Thursday, October 26th titled - Coaching students to prepare for exams can be viewed on the Purdue Parent & Family Connections YouTube channel.

Purdue names new pediatric cancer research center for the late Tyler Trent
More than four years after Tyler Trent’s passing from the rare bone cancer osteosarcoma, Purdue is ensuring that the memory of the former graduate and devoted Boilermaker football fan will live on through research to cure his disease and other pediatric cancers. On Saturday (Oct. 14) during an early timeout in Purdue’s Hammer Down Cancer football game against Ohio State University, Kelly and Tony Trent, Tyler’s parents, helped announce the establishment of Purdue’s new Tyler Trent Pediatric Cancer Research Center within the Purdue Institute for Cancer Research. Fast Company names Purdue University a ‘Brand That Matters’ for third year in a row
For the third year in a row, Purdue University is the only university Fast Company magazine has placed on its roster of “Brands That Matter,” an annual list honoring organizations for performing their brand’s mission and ideals with intention and authenticity. Purdue shares this space with brands like the NFL, Bombas and Rare Beauty and is one of only six three-time honorees. Read more.
Purdue professor ‘brings the world’ to help after Maui, Hawaii, wildfires
Andrew Whelton, professor of civil engineering and environmental and ecological engineering, has built a network of community leaders and experts who have dealt with the environmental aftermath of wildfires. That same network of leaders, connected by circumstances that left them with a highly specialized knowledge base, recently wanted to pay it forward as Maui dealt with the aftermath of the deadliest U.S. wildfire in a century. Purdue Applied Research Institute joins Abt Associates on climate initiative
The Purdue Applied Research Institute has partnered with Abt Associates, a global consulting and research firm, on a $49 million award from the U.S. Agency for International Development to help nations meet the climate commitments they made under the Paris Agreement. Read more.
Purdue recognized by U.S. Department of Education for ongoing sustainability efforts
Earlier this year, Purdue was named a 2023 U.S. Department of Education Green Ribbon School Postsecondary Sustainability Awardee for its collective leadership and commitment to a culture of sustainability, improved health and wellness, and effective environmental education. Purdue representatives Tony Gillund (left), director of sustainability, and Jay Wasson (right), vice president and chief public safety officer for physical facilities and public safety, accepted the award on behalf of the university in Washington, D.C. Purdue Student Legal Services celebrates 10th anniversary
This fall, Student Legal Services is celebrating 10 years of impact on the Purdue community. The organization recently held an event to commemorate its first decade of service to Purdue students. SLS, part of the Office of the Dean of Students and under the auspices of the Office of the Vice Provost for Student Life, provides free and confidential legal services to all Purdue students. Purdue survey delves into brand-name food and beverage preferences of consumers
Most consumers would choose brand-name beverages over generic or store-brand beverages, according to the September 2023 Consumer Food Insights Report. The report further indicates that consumers make this choice even when presented with a sizable price discount on generic or store brand names. The survey-based report out of Purdue’s Center for Food Demand Analysis and Sustainability assesses food spending, consumer satisfaction and values, support of agricultural and food policies, and trust in information sources. Student Spotlight: Shye Robinson Shares How to ‘Be Present’ in Networking
Shye Robinson, a double major in political science and brain and behavioral sciences with a minor in Spanish, is grateful for the opportunities that she has found as a student at Purdue University.
Outside of class, Shye finds comfort in the many memberships and leadership positions she holds around campus. She is most recognizable as the Purdue Student Government (PSG) President, but she also serves in the Political Discourse Club and is a member of the Center for C-SPAN Scholarship & Engagement (CCSE), where she took part in the Boilers Go to D.C. (BGDC) to learn about Washington D.C. and the ever-changing political course of the US. When not focusing on her studies, Shye likes to roller skate, watch TV and work on a podcast she started last December. Read more.
Trustees updated on Purdue’s Next Moves initiatives
During their October 6 meeting, Purdue University trustees were updated on five of the university’s Next Moves initiatives: Plant Sciences 2.0, National Security and Technology Initiative, Purdue Applied Research Institute (PARI), Transformative Education 2.0 and Equity Task Force. Purdue’s Next Moves were launched in April 2021 to advance the university’s competitive advantage in its continuing quest to lead the world’s top research and teaching institutions.
Purdue trustees approve renaming Veterans Success Center to Dorothy Stratton Veteran and Military Success Center
Dorothy Stratton’s legacy and leadership to Purdue University and the nation will be recognized with the renaming of the Veterans Success Center on the West Lafayette campus to the Dorothy Stratton Veteran and Military Success Center. In addition to honoring Stratton, the first full-time dean of women at Purdue, the center’s name now includes the word “Military” to reflect a more inclusive space, as veterans represent the smallest percentage in Purdue’s overall military-connected student population. A rededication ceremony is scheduled for Nov. 10.
Winter Session Registration Open
Open registration is now available for this year’s Winter Session from Monday, Dec. 18, 2023, to Friday, Jan. 5, 2024.
Winter Session is an ideal time to earn THREE credits in three weeks towards graduation, lighten your spring course schedule, and complete academic requirements, such as a second major or minor.
Students may register for one Winter Session course. No classes will be offered on campus. The Winter 2023 schedule of classes is available in your student's myPurdue portal.
