Purdue, West Lafayette police investigating vandalism

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — The Purdue University and West Lafayette police departments are investigating a series of vandalism incidents causing damage to windows on and near the Purdue campus. Since Saturday (March 30), windows in at least three Purdue-owned buildings, and a local business along Northwestern Avenue, have been vandalized.

Purdue Police Chief John Cox said the latest vandalisms occurred in the early morning hours of Friday (April 5) to the CVS Pharmacy across from Mackey Arena, and the Lawson Computer Science Building on the corner of University and Third streets. Police believe a BB gun is being used to damage the windows.

“Our criminal investigations units are working together and they are reviewing video from a number of cameras,” Cox stated.

Both departments encourage people to report suspicious activity immediately.

“If you see something – say something,” Cox said. “Timely reporting helps us solve crimes like these.”

Anyone with information is asked to call the Purdue University Police Department at 765-494-8221, or the West Lafayette Police Department at 765-775-5200. The WeTip anonymous hotline, which is used by all Greater Lafayette law enforcement agencies, also is available at 1-800-78CRIME (1-800-782-7463).
