Boiler Bridge connects Purdue campus, Extension to communities statewide

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - A statewide series of community events hosted by Purdue University’s College of Agriculture will help college-curious youth and parents learn more about multiple fields of study at Purdue while showcasing Purdue Extension programs.

Free and open to the public, Boiler Bridge events in September and October are intended to connect the Purdue University campus to communities throughout Indiana.

Purdue academic counselors will be available to answer questions concerning college costs, available scholarships, financial aid, campus life, career opportunities, placement resources, and more.

Youth interested in college and their parents can also gain specific details about different paths through junior high or high school that could serve as springboards to Purdue academic degrees. Parents also can find out more about important application dates and life at Purdue.

Experts will be able to answer questions about multiple fields of study at Purdue University.

“Boiler Bridge has been a big success in bringing comprehensive, one-stop, local events to communities where students and parents are curious about all Purdue can offer them,” said Jason Henderson, director of Purdue Extension and associate dean of the Purdue College of Agriculture.

“But these events are about much more than campus academics or the next generation of Boilermakers. Boiler Bridge shows how Purdue Extension encourages lifelong learning across Indiana. It’s intended for teenagers considering college, parents raising young children, adults who want to improve their communities, and anyone eager to know how Purdue is transforming lives and livelihoods in our state.”

Purdue Extension representatives will be on hand at Boiler Bridge events to discuss the many ways in which they strengthen future leaders, agricultural industries, communities, and regional economies of all types throughout Indiana. Local youth from Indiana 4-H Youth Development programs also will be on hand for project demonstrations.

Area members of the Purdue Council for Agricultural Research, Extension and Teaching also will be available to discuss their organization. PCARET is a grassroots group of Indiana citizens advising Purdue and advocating on the university’s behalf with legislators and decision-makers.
