WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Lynn J. Good, Duke's chairman, president and chief executive officer, will speak at 1:30 p.m. Oct. 20 at Purdue University as part of the Discovery Park Distinguished Lecture Series. Her talk, which is free and open to the public, is titled "Evolving Expectations and the Energy System" and will take place in Discovery Park's Burton D. Morgan Center for Entrepreneurship, Room 121.

"Lynn is a strategic, forward-thinking leader overseeing a company with 28,000 employees," said Pankaj Sharma, managing director of the Purdue Energy Center in Discovery Park. "All of us depend on reliable, affordable energy, but there are also additional challenges that face the energy industry, and Lynn brings a unique and experienced voice to this conversation."

Good will talk about some of those challenges, which include environmental stewardship and the adoption of emerging technologies. She also will address the implications for the environment, the economy and local communities in how energy companies take on these issues.

Good in 2013 was named CEO of Duke, one of the nation's largest power companies. Prior to that, she was Duke's executive vice president and chief financial officer and previously led the company's commercial energy businesses.

In 2003 she began her utility career with Cinergy, which merged with Duke three years later. She also served as a partner at two international accounting firms.

Good is a board member of the Institute of Nuclear Power Operations, the Edison Electric Institute and the Nuclear Energy Institute. She was listed by Fortune magazine as 13th among the "Most Powerful Women in Business" and by Forbes magazine as one of "The World's 100 Most Powerful Women."

Purdue launched the Discovery Park Distinguished Lecture Series in 2006 through a $1 million gift to Discovery Park from the Indianapolis-based Lilly Endowment with the goal of bringing prominent speakers to campus.
