Purdue's newest alumni walk Elliott Hall stage

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – More than 4,200 of Purdue’s newest graduates walked the Elliott Hall of Music stage over the weekend, as university President Mitch Daniels presided over six commencement ceremonies. The first two ceremonies were held Friday evening (May 13), with two ceremonies held Saturday (May 14) and two on Sunday (May 15).

For years, the West Lafayette campus has held five ceremonies during spring commencement. However, the sixth was added to accommodate additional graduates from the College of Engineering.

“Our tradition is that all graduates get to have their name announced and walk across the stage and receive their diplomas,” said Chris DeHahn Pass, senior assistant registrar and commencement coordinator. “In order to accomplish that and allow graduates’ family and guests to be in attendance, we added an additional Friday ceremony.”

About 5,767 students were candidates for degrees, and approximately 4,263 undergraduates participated in the commencement ceremonies. Also participating were 924 graduate students and 217 students from the professional programs.

All ceremonies at the West Lafayette campus took place in the Elliott Hall of Music. Student responders were chosen for each of the undergraduate ceremonies.

Jordyn K. McCord of Mitchell, Indiana, who received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Engineering from the College of Engineering, was the student responder in the Friday (Division II) ceremony.

Tessa C. Meland of Scottsdale, Arizona, who received a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the College of Veterinary Medicine, was the student responder in the Saturday morning (Division III) ceremony.

Sarah K. Correll of Macy, Indiana, who received a Bachelor of Science degree from the College of Agriculture, was the student responder in the Saturday afternoon (Division IV) event.

The Sunday morning (Division V) student responder was Joseph A. Viater of Carmel, Indiana, who received a Bachelor of Science degree from the School of Management.

Jill M. Bosserman of Columbus, Indiana, who received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the College of Liberal Arts, was the student responder for the Sunday afternoon (Division VI) ceremony.

Diplomas for all candidates who did not attend commencement will be mailed within four to six weeks after the May ceremonies.
