Grand Alternative offers substance-free events for Purdue students

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Several substance-free activities will be offered through April 26 for Purdue students as part of the annual Grand Prix celebrations.

Many campus organizations, offices and departments will participate in this year's Grand Alternative, which will feature a wide range of events.

The Office of the Dean of Students sponsors Grand Alternative with support from the Student Wellness Office and Purdue Student Government.

All Grand Alternative events are open to the public unless otherwise noted. The following is a list of activities and sponsors:

* Wednesday (April 23). 5:30-9:30 p.m. Pi Kappa Alpha parking lot, 629 University St., West Lafayette. Grill Out and Chill Out, sponsored by The Purdue University Dance Marathon and Representatives of Interfraternal Social Education. Proceeds will benefit Riley Hospital for Children.

* Wednesday (April 23). 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Moonlight Pancake Breakfast. Agricultural Administration Building lawn. Free pancakes and music are featured. Sponsored by the Purdue Agricultural Council.

* Thursday (April 24). 7-11 p.m. St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 535 W. State St., West Lafayette. Purdue Catholic Students Root Beer and Karaoke Night. There will be root beer floats, games and karaoke.

* Thursday (April 24). 8-10 p.m. Intramural Fields. Rholl Bounce, sponsored by Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority.

* Thursday (April 24). 6-8 p.m. Intramural Fields, Gold Field #5. 5k Delta Dash for Diabetes, sponsored by Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. Proceeds support the American Diabetes Association.

* April 25. 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Memorial Mall. Grand Prix Day, sponsored by the Purdue Grand Prix Foundation.

* April 25. 8-11 p.m. Marsteller Street. Day 40 Concert on Marsteller, sponsored by Purdue Catholic Students.

* April 25. 11 p.m. to 1 a.m. Wesley Foundation, 435 W. State St., West Lafayette. Wesley Midnight Pancakes. Free pancakes and music, sponsored by the Wesley Foundation at Purdue.

 * April 26. 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Grand Prix Track, near corner of Cherry Lane and McCormick Road. Qualifying heats for final six positions start at 11:30 a.m. Feature race at 2:30 p.m. Free shuttle from several campus pickup points; recommended due to very limited parking at track. Tickets: $10 at gate, $7 in advance; children under 12, $5. For more, visit http://www.purduegrandprix.org/

* April 26. 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Field next to France A. Córdova Recreational Sports Center. Purdue Arab Society Appreciation Day, sponsored by the Purdue Arab Society.

* April 26. 6-10 p.m. Christian Student Center, 115 Waldron St., West Lafayette. Annual Root Beer Event, sponsored by the Christian Student Center at Purdue.

* April 26. 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. Fairway Cooperative, 1320 David Ross Road. Fairway Parking Lot Luau. Event includes outdoor luau with music, food, sports and inflatables. For more, visit Fairway Cooperative.

* April 26. 9-11 p.m. Slayter Hill (rain location is Fowler Hall). Movie on the Hill: "The Lego Movie," sponsored by Purdue Student Union Board
