Appointments, honors and activities

• Faculty and staff honors:

- Willie M. Reed, dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine, has been appointed to the Zoetis board of directors. He will serve on the board's corporate governance committee. Reed has been dean at Purdue since 2006. He previously was chair of the Department of Pathobiology and Diagnostic Investigation and director of the Diagnostic Center for Population and Animal Health at Michigan State University. Before that, he was chief of Purdue's Avian Diseases Diagnostic Service, and assistant and associate professor of veterinary pathology. He served as president of the Association of American Veterinary Medical Colleges, president of the American Association of Avian pathologists and chair of the American Veterinary Medical Association Council on Research. Zoetis is a global animal health company that develops, manufactures and commercializes animal health medicines and vaccines. (GM)

- Claudine Meilink, senior career services consultant with the Center for Career Opportunities, has received the 2014 IMPACT Outstanding Career Development Professional Award from IndianaINTERN.net. The award recognizes a career services professional for qualities in communication with students and employers and as a coach for students on internship professionalism and career development. (GM)

• Alumni honors:

- David Nelson Crosthwait, who received his bachelor's and master's degrees from Purdue, was posthumously named to the 2014 National Inventors Hall of Fame. Crosthwait, who holds 39 U.S. patents and 80 international patents, received an honorary doctoral degree from Purdue in 1975. He is most known for inventing an indoor climate control technology that made heating systems in larger buildings more effective. Crosthwait created the heating systems for Rockefeller Center and Radio City Music Hall. The National Inventors Hall of Fame in partnership with the U.S. Department of Commerce's U.S. Patent and Trademark Office selects inductees to the hall. (CS)
