Purdue features 5 students dedicated to health, wellness

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue University is recognizing five students who are pursuing careers in health fields, such as athletic training, medicine and medical equipment development.

Purdue Marketing and Media has developed a website at http://www.purdue.edu/fivestudents that includes information about the students.

The five "Health Makers" are:

* Jennifer Evemeyer of San Francisco, an MBA student studying operations management and finance. She was inspired by her mother's heart problems to pursue a career in the medical device field. She is participating in an extended internship at Roche Diagnostics, a global leader in health care with U.S. headquarters in Indianapolis.

* Lydia Lochamire of Hudson, Ind., a junior studying human development and family studies. She hopes to be a doctor of osteopathic medicine and to help prepare her she has made three medical mission trips to Nicaragua and was a certified nursing assistant in high school. She is currently an emergency room technician at Lafayette's IU Health Arnett Hospital.

* Alberto Oseguera of San Antonio, a senior studying athletic training. He will be working as an athletic training student with the baseball team this spring.

* Eli Mansfield of Brookston, Ind., a senior studying athletic training. He is working as an athletic training student with the head athletic trainer of the men's basketball team and has participated in data collection for Purdue researchers studying concussions in sports.

* Benjavan Upatising of Bangkok, Thailand, a doctoral student studying industrial engineering. She is completing a four-year Mayo Clinic Healthcare Engineering Fellowship with Purdue's Regenstrief Center for Healthcare Engineering that is centered on a home-telemonitoring study of elderly patients with multiple chronic conditions.
