Preventive care for kids now available at Center for Healthy Living

Since its opening in February 2013, the Center for Healthy Living has provided preventive care for covered individuals age 18 and older. The center has now expanded its services to include preventive care for children age 8 weeks and older who are covered on a Purdue medical plan.
“I’m pleased that we’re now offering pediatric well-child examinations at the Center for Healthy Living,” says Dr. Carolyn Cooper, medical director at the center. “It’s important for children to be seen regularly when they’re not ill to monitor growth and development and to update their vaccinations.”
According to Cooper, a child’s preventive exam covers a wide range of health care information. “Discussions of diet, exercise and safety also take place at a well-child visit,” she says.
Well-child visits fall into the category of preventive care, so the center provides them at no charge. Sick visits for children or visits that combine both well-child and sick care services are subject to a copay or flat fee, depending on which Purdue medical plan covers the child.
“Adding well-child visits furthers our mission of providing comprehensive preventive care to Purdue employees and their families,” says Cooper, who encourages parents to take advantage of the service for their children. To make an appointment for a child, employees may call the center at 49-40111.
The Center for Healthy Living is open 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday. For after-hours and weekend care, clients may call the Anthem nurse line at 888-279-5449.
