A redesigned version of Purdue's home page will go live on Aug. 4, and it includes a simpler, cleaner layout, an easier navigation system and responsive design for mobile devices.
The redesigned home page (www.purdue.edu) will provide users with quick links to new landing pages that will present desired information quickly and more efficiently, says Martin Sickafoose, director of digital marketing in the Office of Marketing and Media.
"The philosophy behind the new home page revolves around simplicity," Sickafoose says.
"By giving our audiences a clear path to the information that analytics shows they want, we've turned that philosophy into functionality. The new home page will make common, identifiable tasks easier to find and navigate on all devices."
The revamped home page will map existing Web content to a more modern navigation system, Sickafoose says. Its responsive design is will work well with smartphones, tablets and other mobile devices as well as traditional browsers. The design is highly customizable, and it will prominently feature seasonal events and other timely information.
Additionally, new, responsive templates will be made available to campus web developers in mid-July. The templates will provide developers with the opportunity to use new designs at the same time the redesigned home page launches in August. The templates also include features, such as full compatibility with screen readers, that will improve accessibility for people with disabilities.
Digital Marketing is holding meetings with key internal and external stakeholders to gather input.
