Appointments, honors and activities

• Faculty and staff honors:- Robert Channon, an associate professor of Russian in the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures, has been awarded the Award for Distinguished Service to the American Association of Teachers of Slavic and East European Languages. The association advances the study and promotes the teaching of Slavic and East European languages, literatures, and cultures on all educational levels, elementary through graduate school.
- The American Institute has named Purdue biomedical engineering professor Alyssa Panitch to the College of Fellows for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE). Panitch received the honor for her contributions to novel biopolymer development and their translation through entrepreneurship into useful medical products. A formal induction ceremony for this year's class of 107 fellows will be held Feb. 20 during AIMBE's 21st Annual Event at the Grand Hyatt in Washington, D.C. The College of Fellows is comprised of the top 2 percent of medical and biological engineers in the country.
