WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Critically acclaimed rapper Lupe Fiasco with the New Boyz will perform at 8 p.m. Sept. 30 in Purdue University's Elliott Hall of Music. This performance is presented by the Purdue Student Concert Committee.

The Steppin Laser Tour follows the successful release of Fiasco's new album called "LASERS," which has already produced two hit singles: "The Show Goes On" and "Out of My Head." LASERS is an acronym for "Love Always Shines Every time: Remember to Smile," and the album is a reflection of a 14-point manifesto the Chicago-born MC composed to guide him on the project, including items like "We want substance in the place of popularity" and "We will not compromise who we are to be accepted by the crowd."  "LASERS" features production by the likes of Jerry Wonder and The Neptunes, as well as collaborations with John Legend, Trey Songz, and others.

New Boyz is a hip hop/rap duo that debuted in summer 2009 with its viral hit, "You're a Jerk" (based on the local dance style of jerkin'), taken from their debut studio album "Skinny Jeanz and a Mic," released in September 2009. The song peaked in the top 30 of the Billboard Hot 100. "Too Cool to Care" is the second studio album (released in May 2011) by the group, and it reached No. 7 on the Billboard Rap Album chart.

About Student Concert Committee
Student Concert Committee (SCC) has 16 student members that have been selected through an application and interview process to advise Purdue Convocations about popular entertainment selections for Purdue students on the West Lafayette campus. Student members experience the equivalent of an internship in the entertainment industry. In addition to weekly meetings, SCC members work on-sale days for SCC shows, are highly involved in publicity and promotional duties for their events, and work backstage day-of-show. Each year, the committee selects eight new members to replace outgoing members who have completed a two-year term. After a one-year general membership, the students are expected to take a leadership and mentoring role on the committee.
