Purdue chemist's Nobel Prize ceremony, lecture to be webcast

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The public can watch Purdue University's Nobel laureate Ei-Ichi Negishi via a live webcast as he delivers his Nobel lecture and receives the 2010 Nobel Prize in chemistry.

At 5 a.m. Wednesday (Dec. 8) Negishi will present "Magical Power of Transition Metals: Past, Present and Future" as he and co-recipients Richard Heck and Akira Suzuki give the Nobel Lectures in Chemistry.

At 10:30 a.m. Friday (Dec. 10) King Carl XVI Gustaf will present Negishi with the medal for the Nobel Prize in chemistry as part of the award ceremony at the Stockholm Concert Hall.

Both events will stream live in high definition on Nobelprize.org, the official website of the Nobel Prize, and will be available as video on-demand 24 hours after the events.

Negishi, the Herbert C. Brown Distinguished Professor of Chemistry, won the prize for developing chemical reactions that allow for easy and efficient synthesis of complex organic compounds that are used in everything from pharmaceuticals to electronics.

In addition to these events, Negishi will participate in press conferences on Tuesday (Dec. 7) and Thursday (Dec. 9) and will attend the Nobel concert on Wednesday (Dec. 8), the Nobel banquet that follows the award ceremony and the royal banquet on Saturday (Dec. 11) as part of Nobel Week 2010.
