Changing Relationships with Family and Friends
When you left home to come to Purdue, the lives of those who stayed behind didn't stop. You will be learning about yourself and others, discovering who you are and who you want to be, and meeting a wide range of people who are both similar and different than those you are used to. When you return home for the first time, you will find that your relationships may change a little. You might no longer find it necessary to have a curfew since you don't have one at your residence hall. You may not be interested in the same things that you were when you were in high school. You'll probably find that your friends from high school have changed, too, and you may not relate to each other as well any more. These things are all natural and are a part of "growing up." You may want to talk to your family prior to going home for the first time and prepare for how it might be different than when you were living there to avoid a big blow-up when you get there. Listed below are some other resources that can help you make this transition back into your home a smooth one.
