Center for Rehabilitation Engineering and Assistive Technology (CREATe)

Healthcare is the largest industry in the world responding to the needs of billions of people. The United States is at the forefront of this global industry, leading the way in many fields of clinical research, training, and practice. With the growing elderly population and persons with long-term disabilities, there is an unprecedented need for preventative healthcare measures, rehabilitative treatment strategies, and assistive technology solutions.

CREATe has widespread collaboration among researchers across all Purdue colleges, The Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSOM), Rehabilitation Hospital of Indiana (RHI), and other hospitals and clinical healthcare partners. CREATe is directed by the chair of the Healthcare Engineering Signature Area Committee (HcESAC), Dr. Robert Hannemann. The HcESAC was established to represent Purdue’s focus on HcE Thrust Areas, which are continually evolving.
