Purdue University provides benefits for faculty and staff who are Official Retirees. The University also provides benefits to Qualifying Surviving Spouses and Qualifying Surviving Children of deceased Purdue faculty and staff.
This policy explains the benefits provided to Official Retirees, Qualifying Surviving Spouses and Qualifying Surviving Children of deceased faculty and staff.
This policy does not apply to faculty and staff who do not meet the criteria to be benefits-eligible as defined in the Faculty and Staff Handbook and University policies.

Additionally, to be considered qualifying under this policy, surviving spouses, and children must meet the eligibility requirements for benefits under University policy.Refer to the Related Documents, Forms and Tools section of this policy for links to these eligibility requirements.

December 1, 2024: Aligned the insurance coverage benefit with action taken by the Board of Trustees in August 2020.
March 1, 2018: Requirements for payment of Indiana income tax for tuition remission eligibility removed. Definition of Official Retiree updated to clarify what equals 10 years of employment.
January 1, 2017: Definition and references to Domestic Partner removed in accordance with the Board of Trustees resolution of December 19, 2015. Contacts section updated.
January 1, 2015: The retiree transition benefit for medical coverage formerly included in section I.A.2 was eliminated.
July 1, 2014: Definition of Official Retiree no longer requires age plus years of service to equal or exceed 70 at the time of retirement. Domestic Partners were added as eligible dependents. The policy was converted to the current policy template.
November 18, 2011: Policy number changed to VI.A.1 (formerly IV.3.1).
May 1, 2002: This policy supersedes Executive Memorandum No. B-35, which was originally issued May 17, 1975, and amended on October 15, 1985; October 23, 1986; November 10, 1995; and January 24, 2000. Executive Memorandum No. B-35 superseded Executive Memorandum No. B-23, issued October 31, 1973. Executive Memorandum No. B-23 superseded Executive Memorandum A-303, issued May 10, 1971.
