Opinion columnist Peggy Noonan to join President Daniels for Purdue Presidential Lecture Series event

Pulitzer Prize-winning opinion columnist Peggy Noonan has been called the “voice of our times,” and her powerful and poignant commentaries and books described as “a love letter to the American political process.” Noonan brings her pointed pen and gift of giving presidents their words to Purdue’s campus for the next Presidential Lecture Series event with President Mitch Daniels at 6 p.m. Oct. 17 in Stewart Center’s Fowler Hall. The new episode of “This Is Purdue” features Shawn Taylor (BS management ’82), a successful entrepreneur and the newest member of Purdue’s Board of Trustees. Listen as Taylor describes his childhood growing up on the south side of Chicago, his experience as a first-generation college graduate and the impact Purdue’s very own Cornell Bell, the former director/chairman of the Business Opportunity Program, had on Taylor’s life both pre- and post-college.

New Purdue Police Chief Lesley Wiete sworn in during campus ceremony

Lesley Wiete, the new chief of the Purdue University Police Department, was officially sworn in during an on-campus ceremony on Wednesday (Sept. 14). Wiete was joined by her family, law enforcement colleagues, campus partners and supporters for the ceremony, which included the presentation of colors and comments from Purdue President Mitch Daniels and Jay Wasson, vice president for physical facilities and chief public safety officer. Purdue United Way campaign now underway, with $725,000 goal

Purdue's 2022 United Way campaign is now underway with the goal of raising $725,000 for local agencies. The campaign officially launched on Wednesday (Sept. 14) following a kickoff event on the Purdue Mall, with volunteers, organizers and this year’s campaign chair, Linda Mason, dean of the Graduate School, and vice chair Beth McNeil, dean of Libraries and School of Information Studies. Purdue graduate aims to use degree to improve lives of prosthesis users

Nixon Opondo already intended to bring much-needed knowledge and skills gained with his online Doctor of Technology degree from Purdue back to prosthesis users in his home in Kenya. Then, that mission became even more personal; while completing his studies, Opondo learned that he had a serious medical condition requiring him to wear a prosthetic device.

Keynote speaker set for Hispanic Heritage Month celebration

The Office of Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging has announced that Katya Echazarreta will give a public talk Sept. 26 as part of its annual National Hispanic Heritage Month celebration. In June, Echazarreta flew on board Blue Origin’s NS-21, becoming the first Mexican-born woman astronaut and youngest American to fly to space.
