Lesley Wiete, the new chief of the Purdue University Police Department, was officially sworn in during an on-campus ceremony on Wednesday (Sept. 14). Purdue's 2022 United Way campaign is now underway with the goal of raising $725,000 for local agencies. Nixon Opondo already intended to bring much-needed knowledge and skills gained with his online Doctor of Technology degree from Purdue back to prosthesis users in his home in Kenya. Then, that mission became even more personal; while completing his studies, Opondo learned that he had a serious medical condition requiring him to wear a prosthetic device.

The Office of Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging has announced that Katya Echazarreta will give a public talk Sept. 26 as part of its annual National Hispanic Heritage Month celebration. In June, Echazarreta flew on board Blue Origin’s NS-21, becoming the first Mexican-born woman astronaut and youngest American to fly to space.
