Update: 80% of Purdue campus community documented as fully vaccinated against COVID-19

Already one of the most vaccinated populations in the state of Indiana, the Purdue campus community in West Lafayette has reached a milestone in the fight against COVID-19, with 80% of the overall population now fully vaccinated. Overall, 43,995 students, faculty and staff have documented their vaccination status and had it verified as of Thursday (Aug. 26).

New Faculty Orientation

New faculty members welcomed, introduced with brief profiles

Incoming professors at the West Lafayette campus took part Aug. 19 in a New Faculty Orientation hosted by the Office of the Provost. They received a welcome from Jay Akridge, provost and executive vice president for academic affairs and diversity, and heard presentations on a variety of subjects such as equity, diversity and inclusion; tenure and promotion; Purdue students; campus climate; research and partnerships; and engagement. They also attended an information fair. Brief profiles of many of these new faculty members, by way of welcome and introduction, are presented by the Office of the Provost and Purdue Today.

Malaria treatment shown to be 100% effective in Phase 2 trial

A cancer drug repurposed to treat malaria has been shown to be nearly 100% effective in helping defeat the disease in just three days, according to the results of a Phase 2 clinical trial published Thursday (Aug. 26) in the Journal of Experimental Medicine. Purdue professor Philip Low (above) led the international team that made the discovery.

Construction projects continue on WL campus as fall semester begins

As the 2021-22 academic year gets underway, work on several construction and renovation projects will continue on the West Lafayette campus. In addition to the building projects, the planting of more trees will continue to shape the campus landscape as part of the 1869 Tree Planting Master Plan.

Boiler Gold Rush recap: Welcome, Boilermakers!

Boiler Gold Rush 2021 was a hit. Purdue welcomed its largest-ever freshman class with a continuous multi-day celebration that began with move-in and ended with a fireworks send-off. From fountain runs to crossing the tracks to a movie night at Ross-Ade Stadium, Boilermakers took part in campus traditions and made memories that will last a lifetime.
