Purdue professor leads international team’s research into deepfakes, manipulated media

Deepfake videos of actor Tom Cruise on Tik Tok can create some confusion among fans. A deepfake video of a drug company CEO announcing COVID-19 vaccine failures, however, could cause panic. Ferreting out deepfake videos is the work of Edward Delp, the Charles William Harrison Distinguished Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, who is leading one of the teams in the Semantic Forensics program created by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency for the U.S. Department of Defense.

Coverage of women’s sports remains the same as 30 years ago

Women’s sports receive the same amount of news coverage as they did in the 1980s, according to a study of sports reporting over three decades. When women are given airtime, the coverage is lower in technical quality and production value when compared with coverage of men’s sports, the study finds.
