ESE symposium to consider global governance after 2020

The 14th annual symposium by Purdue’s Ecological Sciences and Engineering Interdisciplinary Graduate Program will be held virtually Tuesday and Wednesday (March 30-31), looking at sustainability locally and globally in the context of 2020 and longer-range efforts.

The symposium is titled “Hindsight 202One,” and its events are free and open to students, faculty and staff. An RSVP is needed for each event to attend.

Art exhibition

From now through Sunday (March 28), members of the Purdue community can submit visual art, performance art or creative writing to express how they see the world coming together again to address social-ecological challenges faced in 2021. Artistic submissions will be displayed March 30-31 on an “Exhibition” website open to the Purdue community and symposium speakers. To learn more, visit the ESE website. Keynote speaker

Tuesday (March 30) – 3:30-5 p.m. The symposiums keynote address will be delivered by Marcos Espinal, director of the department of communicable disease and environmental determinants of health at the Pan American Health Organization. RSVP for keynote.

Local panel

Tuesday (March 30) – 6-7:30 p.m. Hindsight 202One in West Lafayette. Local leaders, including West Lafayette Mayor John Dennis and City Council President Peter Bunder, will discuss West Lafayette’s efforts to adapt to the many events of 2020. There will be a 30-minute interactive Q&A session immediately following the panel where participants can engage in small group discussions with the panelists and other local sustainability leaders. Global panel

Wednesday (March 31) – 6-7 p.m. Hindsight 202One on International Scale. A global panel will discuss international efforts to address the intertwined issues of health, climate change, and social equity. RSVP for global panel.
