Purdue to celebrate virtual Homecoming on Nov. 9-14

Themed “Giant Leaps @ Home,” Purdue University’s 2020 Homecoming celebration will take place virtually this year, Nov. 9-14. In keeping with the Protect Purdue Plan, this year’s Homecoming will forgo in-person gatherings. Instead, it offer the Purdue family around the globe an array of virtual programming that celebrates the university’s storied history and the traditions, memories, and spirit that bind us together.

As a national spokesperson for the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge, Purdue University President Mitch Daniels continues to encourage young people, specifically college students, to get out and vote during the final days leading up to the 2020 election.

Innovation spins spider web architecture into 3D imaging technology

Purdue University innovators are taking cues from nature to develop 3D photodetectors for biomedical imaging. The Purdue researchers used some architectural features from spider webs to develop the technology. Spider webs typically provide excellent mechanical adaptability and damage-tolerance against various mechanical loads such as storms.

All-terrain magnetic microrobot flips through a live colon

A rectangular robot as tiny as a few human hairs can travel throughout a colon by doing back flips, Purdue engineers have demonstrated in live animal models. Why the back flips? Because the goal is to use these robots to transport drugs in humans, whose colons and other organs have rough terrain. Side flips work, too.
