Plans underway to protect the most vulnerable Purdue populations of serious illness from COVID-19

With the goal of protecting the Purdue community from exposure to COVID-19, the Protect Purdue implementation team has announced the plan for identifying those who are most vulnerable to serious illness and the process for making accommodations to provide a safe working environment. Purdue’s Board of Trustees endorsed this component of the Protect Purdue plan at its meeting on May 26.

Enabling highways and bridges to prevent their own damage

Roads always seem to need repairs. Luna Lu is giving concrete the ability to “talk” and even heal itself. Her lab at Purdue is developing technology that would allow concrete-paved bridges and highways to reveal more accurately when they need repairs and to come equipped with materials that respond to potential damage.

Discovery unlocks ‘hot’ electrons for more efficient energy use

Highly energetic, “hot” electrons have the potential to help solar panels more efficiently harvest light energy. But scientists haven’t been able to measure the energies of those electrons, limiting their use. Researchers at Purdue University and the University of Michigan have built a way to analyze those energies.

Purdue University Global recognizes more than 1,000 graduates

More than 1,000 Purdue University Global graduates worldwide took part in a virtual commencement ceremony on Saturday (June 6). The commencement was streamed live from Fowler Hall on Purdue University’s West Lafayette campus using a 360-degree camera so participants could feel fully immersed in the ceremony.
