As Purdue’s Safe Campus Task Force continues to work through the vital decisions that need to be made to safely operate our campus in the fall, I write today to provide some preliminary guidance on the timeline for returning to work for those who are now working remotely.

Missing baseball? Still want to talk stats? Purdue data science student Twitter account can fill the void

The 2020 Major League Baseball season is on hold because of the COVID-19 pandemic, but a Purdue freshman can help avid fans fill the void with an increasingly popular Twitter account. Jeremy Frank, a data science major in Purdue’s College of Science, runs @MLBRandomStats, which features past and present baseball statistics and MLB commentary. The account has over 55,000 followers who want to hear what Frank has to say about stats, analysis and the history of America’s pastime.

Hands-on with augmented reality in remote classrooms

Remote education has forced teachers to use every tool in their toolbox. But augmented reality, which allows both visual and hands-on instruction from any setting, remains out-of-reach for most educators. A team led by Purdue has built an app platform called MetaAR, enabling students and teachers to easily collaborate using augmented reality.

Colleges’ food drive brings in over $80,000

The College of Agriculture recently led a campus virtual food drive that raised $82,364 for Food Finders Food Bank. According to metrics provided by Food Finders, this translates to 248,761 meals that will feed families in North Central Indiana. The College of Agriculture was joined by nine other major academic units.
