As Indiana's former commerce secretary, Dan Hasler joined Purdue to do what he does best -- look for innovations that can positively affect our global society.
Hasler joined Purdue in February as the president and chief entrepreneurial officer of Purdue Research Foundation. He is working to move Purdue's life-changing innovations through the technology transfer pipeline and to generate more entrepreneurship and commercialization licensing deals for Purdue innovators.
Faculty and staff news
Registration for Spring Fling, the annual appreciation event for faculty, staff, graduate student staff and retirees, will be accepted through 5 p.m. Friday (May 10).
The Administrative and Professional Staff Advisory Committee recognized outgoing members and new members at its luncheon and meeting on Wednesday (May 8) and presented an annual honor.
A special Board of Trustees issue of Purdue Today will be sent Friday (May 10) at the conclusion of the board's scheduled meeting. The agenda for the meeting is available on the Board of Trustees' redesigned website, which now also includes a message from Board of Trustees chairman Keith Krach, information about Purdue's student trustee and the option to search or browse meeting minutes through e-Archives.
The September "5 Students Who ..." website will shine the spotlight on exceptional new Boilermakers at the West Lafayette campus. Faculty and staff are encouraged to nominate incoming freshmen who are already making their mark on the world. Deadline for nominations is May 17.

R. Graham Cooks, the Henry Bohn Hass Distinguished Professor of Chemistry, has won the 2013 Dreyfus Prize in the Chemical Sciences, awarded this year in the field of chemical instrumentation.
Arden L. Bement Jr., former director of the National Science Foundation and inaugural director of Purdue's Global Policy Research Institute, has been honored with a new fellow program and energy fund in his name.
Mario Ferruzzi, professor of food and nutrition sciences, will receive Purdue's 2013 Agricultural Research Award for his work in helping to improve food quality and human health and to reduce chronic disease.

Purdue will honor some of its highest academic-achieving graduating seniors during spring commencement ceremonies this weekend (May 10-12). Two students from the College of Agriculture will be honored with the University's top student awards for graduating seniors.

Purdue sports
The Boilermaker volleyball team will help youth of all ages improve their skills at a variety of camps in July.
Four Boilermakers were named to the 48-player roster for the U.S. Women's National Volleyball Senior A2 Program, which will train and compete June 25 to July 4 in Dallas.
The Purdue men's basketball team will host Boston College on Dec. 4 as part of the 15th annual Big Ten/ACC Challenge. Matchups for all 12 games in the two-day challenge of conferences have been announced.
