Elizabeth Wagner Named New Director of Export Controls

With sincere appreciation to all those involved in the search process, we are pleased to announce that Elizabeth Wagner has been hired to serve as Purdue’s Director of Export Controls within the Office of the Executive Vice President for Research and Partnerships (EVRPR), effective Monday, January 24.

Elizabeth will play a key role in the research security infrastructure at Purdue. She will be responsible for overseeing export compliance for the university system and serve as Purdue’s Empowered Official under the ITAR regulations. In addition, her position includes coordinating export control and data security solutions with Purdue’s Sponsored Program and IT teams and serving as liaison to the new Purdue Applied Research Institute (PARI), which will handle Purdue’s classified portfolio. Reporting directly to the Associate Vice President for Research, Regulatory Affairs, Ms. Wagner will enhance foreign influence and research security strategies as well as assist faculty and staff comply with applicable laws and regulations.

Elizabeth brings a broad portfolio to Purdue’s Export Control program, with 15 years of higher ed experience, including her most recent positions as Senior Export Control Officer at The Ohio State University, and Director of Compliance and Policy at the University of Michigan’s College of Engineering. Beyond export control, her experience includes leadership roles in research administration, conflict of interest, and responsible conduct of research. She also brings a background in graduate education and postdoctoral studies, academic human resources, diversity and inclusion, training, and project management. This breadth gives her a holistic viewpoint, with a solution-driven focus on supporting the university’s key missions of research and education. Ms. Wagner holds a BS in Literature from Eastern Michigan University.
