Position Description: Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs and Diversity

Purdue University faculty holding the rank of professor or distinguished professor are invited to apply for the position of Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs and Diversity. The provost reports directly to the president and works closely with him in providing institutional leadership.

The provost is expected to be an effective and collaborative leader whose commitment to Purdue’s long-term success is apparent in a record of research, teaching and engagement. Candidates must also demonstrate previous success in leading a large, complex entity: a college/school, department, or research effort. Successful applicants will have a deep understanding of Purdue’s land-grant mission and the ability to guide its academic enterprise to even greater strength as the national higher education landscape evolves and changes. The provost must be dedicated to the strength and support of Purdue’s diverse and inclusive community and be committed to maintaining equal opportunity for its members.

Our university’s next provost must be focused on concluding the implementation of the Purdue Moves; on pursuing the extension of the university's land-grant mission to non-traditional students through effective online and other modalities; and on advancing Purdue’s rapidly heightening reputation as a nationally renowned, STEM-focused hub of innovation in higher education. The provost must have ambitious ideas and the collaborative ability to achieve clear results.

The provost is responsible for the recruitment, hiring, and review of deans; and ensuring that they successfully implement programs to achieve the university’s academic, research and engagement priorities. Likewise, the provost must ensure the functions of academic affairs, student life, diversity and inclusion, the Graduate School, enrollment management, and libraries are delivered robustly, with focus on student success, and optimal use of resources. The provost must have experience and a record of success in securing grants, fundraising, and interacting with major donors.
