Safe Ride With Lyft
A new safe ride pilot program with Lyft is available to Purdue students in Indianapolis.
Destinations
Lyft will provide students with rides to and from designated locations within a defined service area around the Purdue Indianapolis campus.
Primary Geo-Fenced Service Area
The primary service area includes the block bounded by:
- Walnut Street (north)
- Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street (east)
- New York Street (south)
- Barnhill Drive (west)
IU Health University Hospital, located within this boundary, is included as a designated pickup and drop-off location at the east side entrance.
Additional Designated Pickup and Drop-Off Locations (Outside the Geo-Fenced Boundary)
The following locations are outside the primary geo-fenced area but are included as designated pickup and drop-off points:
- LUX on Capitol – East side entrance
- IU Health Clinic – West side entrance
- Student Center – Within a one-block radius of the building
- Eskenazi Hospital – East side entrance
- National Institute of Fitness and Sport (NIFS) – Northeast corner entrance
The service operates seven days a week from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m. during the pilot period, which runs through May 31.

Credits
Each student will receive five ride credits per month, with each credit covering up to $15 of a Lyft ride. The credits are only usable within the outlined geo-fenced areas on the map. Students may also share rides with other eligible riders to maximize the value of each credit.
Once a student is signed up for the program, a pass will be reflected in the ‘Payment’ tab of the Lyft app and will automatically apply to any eligible rides. If a ride is not eligible, a discount will not be shown on the ride confirmation screen. Cancellation fees, no-show fees, damage fees and driver tips will be charged to the payment method on file in the Lyft app.
Ride Smart
When riding with Lyft, always make safety a top priority and be sure to take the following actions:
- Follow the Lyft vehicle on GPS via the app.
- Ask the driver to say who they are picking up.
- Verify your ride by making sure the license plate number, driver information and car make and model match what you see in the app.
- Share your location and route with a friend or loved one from within the Lyft app so they can follow your ride in real-time.
