Quidditch team wins division at World Cup
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue University’s Quidditch team took home the World Cup title in its division at the fifth International Quidditch Association’s World Cup.
Going into the tournament, which was held on Randall’s Island in New York City, the team’s record was 0-7. Yet, the team managed to go undefeated throughout the tournament.
“We didn’t expect to win a single game, let alone our entire division,” said Karla Bentcover, president of the student organization. “It was truly an underdog story.”
The final score against opponent Richmond Institute of Technology was 60-20.
Purdue Quidditch was formed in 2009. Quidditch is a sport that is adapted from the popular Harry Potter book and movie series. The organization’s teams regularly play on Purdue’s Vawter Field and also have a traveling team that competes at other schools and tournaments.
Purdue Quidditch will be holding a Yule Ball on Dec. 3. The ball will be 8:30 p.m. to midnight in Stewart Center, Room 306. Tickets are $15 for single, $20 for a couple. The dress is semi-formal. All students and faculty are welcome to attend.
