Reminder: Procedures for programs involving minors

The Bell Tower at Purdue University.

Faculty and staff are reminded that they must follow the requirements of Programs Involving Minors (III.A.6) and the Operating Procedures for Programs Involving Minors for all programs or activities with minors as participants that they, their department and/or college, will host, whether held on campus or off. The procedures require that all programs be registered with the university.  Most programs are required to register at least 30 days before participant registration opens. When registering, the program director is required to certify that these three conditions have been met:

  1. All program staff has passed the minimum background check requirements.
  2. All program staff has completed training on youth safety and mandatory reporting in Indiana within 24 months preceding the start of the program.
  3. The safeguards outlined in the procedures have been put in place.

A set of FAQs for Programs Involving Minors and a Program Guidance for Program Directors are provided for further clarification. Questions about the procedures may be directed to the Office of the Vice President for Ethics and Compliance at youthprotection@purdue.edu.
