University celebrates the grand opening of the Purdue HIVE

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Purdue University celebrated the grand opening of the Purdue Hub for Innovation, Ventures, and Entrepreneurship (Purdue HIVE) on Friday (Sept. 25).

Established through the AGE Fisher Family Foundation, the Purdue HIVE supports student-led startups focused on tech- or engineering-driven solutions. The ceremony included remarks from Christopher Brinton, Purdue HIVE faculty director; Mahek Parvez, a current student; Mark Lundstrom, the John A. Edwardson Dean of the College of Engineering; Gary Lehman, chair of the Purdue University Board of Trustees; and donors Jeff (BS electrical engineering ’80) and Edie (BS retail management ’80) Fisher.

Centrally located in the Duncan Annex of the Max W & Maileen Brown Family Hall of Electrical Engineering, the Purdue HIVE is a dedicated space for building, testing and advancing real ventures. Spanning approximately 10,000 square feet, the center features incubator spaces for startup companies, hot-desking spaces for competitively selected undergraduate innovators, common areas that encourage collaboration, and dedicated spaces for hosting pitch competitions and on-campus Purdue Research Foundation entrepreneurship training activities.

This new space connects students with campuswide resources and programs, including the Certificate of Entrepreneurship and Innovation, the Mitch Daniels School of Business, and the Purdue Research Foundation’s Purdue Innovates initiative.

“The Purdue HIVE will provide an important new home for student entrepreneurship and innovation,” said President Mitch Daniels. “By bringing together talented students who are building, testing and advancing technology-driven solutions, this dedicated space will help strengthen Purdue’s culture of entrepreneurship and equip the next generation of innovators to make a meaningful impact on Indiana, our nation and the world.”
