Volunteers needed May 5-11 for Project Move Out
Project Move Out, an annual event that encourages students moving out for the summer to donate usable items to community organizations rather than throwing them away, is seeking volunteers to assist in a variety of ways from May 5-11.
The project, now in its 25th year, is organized by the ACE Campus Food Pantry, Wellness Suite and University Residences, along with community partner agencies. In addition to assisting families, Project Move Out keeps thousands of items from landfills. Last year, it was estimated that this program diverted roughly 50,751 pounds of items from heading to the landfill.
Among the gently used items frequently donated, students give electronics and appliances (e.g., mini fridges, stereos, microwaves, etc.), furniture (e.g., futons, chairs, shelves, etc.) clothing (including coats) and other household items. Items are donated at designated places in each residence hall. Shelf-stable food, personal hygiene and cleaning supplies are collected at the front desk of each hall and are donated directly to ACE Campus Food Pantry.
The overall objective of this program is to provide students a convenient and responsible way to donate perfectly usable items they cannot take with them or no longer want.
Staff and faculty volunteers are especially needed during this time as students are leaving campus.
