This week’s ‘Thumbs Up’ recipients
Ayhan Irfanoglu and Teresa DeMien
Our department is undergoing some bathroom renovations across from the main office, and there was an accidental flood in the hallway this week. While working in my office, I heard scraping and chatter in the hall and emerged to find our office administrative manager and assistant to the head, Teresa DeMien (Civil and Construction Engineering), and professor and associate department head, Ayhan (Civil and Construction Engineering), busy with a dustpan, broom and yellow mop bucket scraping water up and diverting it from the office carpet. Teresa goes above and beyond every day, and no detail is too small for her if it affects our department. And we benefit so much from the care Ayhan puts into every aspect of department functions, student success and even emergency situations like this that are far outside the scope of his other work. We are lucky to have them! — Laura Lathrop (Engineering)
Keith DePoy, Suzzanne Hauntz, Joshua Sondgeroth and Jan Aynes
A big thumbs-up to Keith, Suzzanne, Joshua and Jan (all Operations and Maintenance) for stepping out of their comfort zone during training to demo the new SimpleMDG system in front of their peers. It was super helpful and much appreciated! Thanks again! — Aubrey Strasser (Administrative Operations)
Jeff Himes
Jeff (IT Telecommunications Infrastructure) dropped what he was doing on a Friday afternoon and recognized that hardware and security improvements made to the Purdue University Fort Wayne wireless infrastructure had affected a group of barcode scanners used by PFW shipping and receiving, so he scrambled to visit the PFW mail room facility in Ginsberg Hall and worked out a solution that had them back up and scanning that afternoon. The background knowledge necessary to recognize the source of the problem and the initiative necessary to quickly and efficiently solve the problem need to be recognized; thanks, Jeff! — Jeff Eley (Regional IT Expense Recovery)
Michelle Goodin
Michelle (Graduate Admissions) has assisted me countless times with admissions questions. She is so knowledgeable when I have needed her guidance with new graduate applicants. She always treats me with the utmost respect and patience when I am facing a deadline and need a quick turnaround. I appreciate her so much! — Lisa Gross (Botany and Plant Pathology)
