Purdue University Police Chief Lesley Wiete has been appointed by Indiana Gov. Mike Braun to serve on the board of trustees for the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute, the state’s planning agency for criminal justice, juvenile justice, traffic safety and victim services.
The institute is responsible for plans and strategies for Indiana’s criminal and juvenile justice systems and manages funds to help carry out these plans and strategies. It is governed by a 16-member board of trustees representing areas of the state’s criminal and juvenile justice system.
“It is an honor and privilege to be appointed to this board, serving with some of the state’s top law enforcement and legal officials,” Wiete said. “I am excited to learn from these individuals as we work together to prioritize and advance Indiana’s criminal justice system.”
Wiete is a 26-year veteran of the PUPD. She began her career as a patrol officer in 1999 then was promoted to sergeant of patrol, lieutenant of patrol, captain of administrative services and deputy chief before being named chief in 2022. As chief of the Purdue University Police Department, she oversees the operational, financial and staffing operations of the department.
Wiete has officially started her appointment with the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute and will serve on the board of trustees through Dec. 31, 2029.
