Appointments, honors and activities

  • The U.S. Department of Energy (DoE) is investing $875,000 in pioneering quantum-materials research led by Assistant Professor Valentin Walther, who holds a joint appointment in chemistry and physics at Purdue University. This new funding will fuel theoretical investigations into controlling photon-matter interactions, which is a key step toward future quantum technologies.
  • Mopelola “Mope” Adeola, a clinical associate professor in the School of Nursing at Purdue University, has been elected vice president of the Midwest Nursing Research Society (MNRS) board of directors for the 2026-27 term. Adeola will begin her two-year leadership role at the MNRS Annual Research Conference from March 30-April 2 in St. Louis.
  • The Purdue University College of Engineering is pleased to announce the appointment of Mark Gruninger as senior director of the Industrial Research and Consortia initiative. Gruninger, who had been serving as managing director, will now helm the drive to expand industry-focused research consortia around materials processing and advanced materials manufacturing.
