This week’s ‘Thumbs Up’ recipients
Adam Iserman and Natalie Rice
A big shoutout to the Residential Life teams, led by Adam and Natalie (both Resident Activities), for hosting such a wonderful Faculty Fellows food trucks event Oct. 15. Hundreds of students showed up to enjoy local food and be in community with their peers and dedicated Faculty Fellows from all across Purdue. It was great to see so many people take a break from their work and studying as they returned from fall break. You all not only fed our students but also gave them the chance to connect with the larger Boilermaker community. This place feels like home because of the work you all do! — Kris Yambao (Resident Activities)
Melinda Anderson
Dr. Anderson (Veterinary Medicine) is one of the kindest people on the Purdue Veterinary Medicine staff. She went out of her way to help my friends and I pursue our team roping dreams by lending us one of her roping dummies and sending an email out when it was accidentally taken by management. — Joseph Lafiosca (Veterinary Medicine)
Melinda Anderson
Not only did Dr. Anderson (Veterinary Medicine) donate a roping dummy to me and friends to practice learning calf roping on, but she also stood up for us when the dummy was almost thrown away. She helped us find it so that we could continue practicing a valuable skill that we want to take with us in our careers. Thank you, Dr. Anderson! We really appreciate you! — Connor Guest (Veterinary Medicine)
Patrick Gilliam and Scott Smith
Patrick and Scott (both Operations and Maintenance), apprentice indoor air quality technicians, displayed exceptional troubleshooting skills and technical aptitude in diagnosing and correcting multiple failures within several heat reclaim systems, including failed feeder pumps, waterlogged expansion tanks and a circulation pump. Their efforts restored critical system functionality and optimized heat transfer across multiple air handling units serving 100% outside air at the Animal Holding Facility, Lynn Hall, Nelson Hall and the Veterinary Medicine Isolation Facility. By bringing these heat reclaim systems back online, they prevented potential coil freeze-ups, avoided costly equipment damage and improved overall energy recovery efficiency. Their initiative and problem-solving are estimated to save thousands of dollars in energy losses and emergency response costs while ensuring reliable, year-round operation. — Cody Hart (Operations and Maintenance)
Purdue nursing students
An energetic team of Purdue nursing students assisted the Purdue University Retirees Association with its distribution of 564 free flu shots and 146 wellness checks across three days in October. They delivered the shots with friendly smiles and the wellness data with great competence. Boiler Up! — Charlene Sullivan (Purdue University Retirees Association)
Brian Scott
I would like to thank Brian (Operations and Maintenance) in the Plumbing Shop for all his hard work and dedication in keeping the fountains on our campus looking and running beautifully. He is always upbeat and understanding if there are any issues. He takes great pride in his work, and it shows. Thanks again. — Erin Sarafin (Ground Recharge Operations)
Russell Tragesser
Russell (Financial Aid) is always going above and beyond. Anytime I contact him, he is willing to help. I am so grateful to him for all of his wisdom and help. — Heather Holley (Bursar)
Carole Perigo
Carole (Bursar) is a wealth of information and resources, not only for me, but for Purdue as a whole. I have worked with Carole for several years, and she could not be more helpful and kind in what she does. — Heather Holley (Bursar)
Andrew Shuter
Thank you to Andrew (Purdue University Online) for quickly assisting us with the Innovative Learning accessibility webpage in order to provide instructors with important resources on the new ADA Title II ruling! — Leslie Miller (Center for Instructional Excellence)
