Purdue, Korean city of Incheon sign MOU to promote joint academic programming, faculty and student exchange, and research collaborations

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — On Nov. 20 in Incheon, South Korea, Purdue University signed a memorandum of understanding with the metropolitan city of Incheon to collaborate on educational initiatives and to promote academic and research and development exchanges.

Under the agreement, Purdue and Incheon expressed their intent to establish an R&D center in the city of Songdo. In addition, the university will work with Incheon to expand access to Purdue’s curriculum in South Korea. The MOU will also promote more research collaborations in fields that include:

• semiconductors
• aeronautics
• artificial intelligence
• advanced manufacturing
• quantum computing

“Purdue has longstanding academic and research ties with Korea,” said Dimitrios Peroulis, Purdue’s senior vice president for partnerships and online and the Reilly Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering. “Leveraging the combined strengths of Incheon and Purdue, we look forward to together advancing education and research for semiconductors, aerospace, AI and other key areas.” 

Earlier this year, the Republic of Korea designated Purdue as an overseas partnership institution for global technology cooperation and provided funding to create the Center of Operation and Research for Industry Advancement (CORIA) at Purdue. This was aligned with the South Korean government’s comprehensive strategy to advance technological research in semiconductors, biotechnology, batteries, future mobility, robotics, artificial intelligence and quantum technology with allied global partners.
