Policy updates for November

The Bell Tower at Purdue during the fall season.

Purdue routinely reviews and updates the university’s systemwide policies and standards. The following changes are in effect Nov. 1:

  1. Artificial Intelligence Use (VII.A.5): This new policy outlines the responsible use of generative artificial intelligence and large language model tools. This includes the framework for review and approval of available tools and for developing new tools, restrictions on sensitive and restricted data, and coordination with guidance from the Office of the Provost on academic and classroom use.
  2. Institutional Conflicts of Interest (III.B.6): Updates to this policy remove minimums from and add venture capital financing to the reportable financial interests for university officials, as defined in the policy.
  3. Research Misconduct (III.A.2): Revisions to this policy eliminate the standing committee in favor of appointing members of the Inquiry Committee based on availability and expertise. Additional minor updates align the responsibilities with current practice and the definitions with federal rules.
  4. Retirement for High-Level Positions (VI.F.9): In this policy, the definition for employees affected by the policy was updated to reflect language from applicable laws.
  5. Controlled Unclassified Information in Research (S-32): This new standard outlines Purdue’s Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification program for information used or created in federally sponsored research that is not classified but requires safeguarding or dissemination controls.

Visit the new and revised policies page on the University Policy Office website for a link to the full text of these systemwide policies and standard.

Note: Policies and standards do not apply to Purdue University Global, as it maintains its own policies and standards.
