Annual reminder to complete Purdue’s mandatory research security training

Last year, as part of its commitment to safeguarding research and complying with federal requirements, Purdue launched a mandatory research security training program for all clinical, research and tenured/tenure-track faculty as well as staff and students involved in research-related activities. This initiative reflects the university’s proactive approach to addressing emerging challenges in research security while fostering an environment of awareness and accountability.

The training module, which takes approximately 30 minutes to complete, was designed to address evolving federal regulations and research security challenges. Topics include international travel, insider threats and reporting obligations to Purdue and federal sponsors. It replaces the four-hour National Science Foundation-developed research security training and meets new federal agency training requirements. The training must be completed every 12 months.

Those whose training expired should have received an email reminder. If you’re not sure your training has expired or you need to register, check the Research Security Training registration page of Purdue’s WebCert Course Catalog.

After registering, log in to Brightspace (Purdue West Lafayette/Indianapolis) and select the training under the WebCert tab. Step-by-step instructions can be found here. If you have questions or concerns, please contact the Research Security and Export Controls team at rsec@purdue.edu.
