New Institutional Review Board module in PERA to be introduced in October

Rollout of the Purdue Excellence in Research Administration (PERA), Purdue’s innovative electronic research administration system, continues with the upcoming launch of the Institutional Review Board (IRB) module.

On Oct. 27, the PERA IRB module will go live. This milestone follows the successful rollout of other PERA modules over the past year, including Grants, Agreements, Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee, Institutional Biosafety Committee, and Conflict of Interest/Conflict of Commitment modules.

Replacing the current Cayuse software, the new IRB module will provide a more efficient and simplified experience for the completion of IRB protocols. Active IRB protocols (excluding Coeus legacy protocols) will be migrated into PERA and modifications will need to be completed there.

Important dates

  • Sept. 24 at 5 p.m. — Initial submission cutoff using Cayuse. Any initial submission that is not completed by this date will need to be created in PERA after IRB’s Oct. 27 go live. Resources will be available to allow work on submissions to take place during this downtime. These resources will be on the PERA training website before Cayuse cutoff dates.
  • Oct. 1 at 5 p.m. — Modification and continuing review submission cutoff in Cayuse. Any modification not submitted by this date will need to be created in PERA after IRB’s Oct. 27 go live. Your active IRB protocols will be migrated into PERA and modifications will need to be completed there. After this cutoff date, individuals may still be asked to make changes to submissions, but any other activity in Cayuse will not be reviewed or migrated to PERA.
  • Oct. 27 — IRB module goes live in PERA.

Resources

  • PERA IRB Go-Live Information — This website will house information about the project and training material as it becomes available. Exempt and nonexempt protocol templates, which can be used to continue work during the system transition, will also be available here.
  • User demonstrations — All principal investigators on active protocols will be invited to attend a system demonstration in the weeks leading up to the go-live date. These invitations can be forwarded to applicable study staff.
