It takes a village: Purdue faculty and staff power a sold-out Grandparents University

A smiling boy jumps in front of a yellow “Grandparents University” frame during the 2025 event, held in July on Purdue’s campus.

On July 17–18 and July 24–25, the Purdue for Life Foundation hosted 1,000 grandparents and grandchildren in West Lafayette for Grandparents University. The goal of this annual event is to strengthen connections among grandparents, their grandchildren and Purdue.

With the help of instructors from across the university, participants were able to choose from 32 “majors” to study, participate in hands-on learning activities and enjoy their own commencement ceremony in Elliott Hall of Music.

Faculty and staff interested in learning more about becoming an instructor for next year’s Grandparents University should contact Leslie Fernung, director of lifelong learning, at lafernung@purdueforlife.org.
