Two Purdue alumnae are featured in IBJ’s annual 20 in their Twenties, included among central Indiana’s up-and-coming leaders in business, the arts and culture, philanthropy, and community service.

Selected by a committee of Indianapolis Business Journal leaders and outside judges, the award honors young professionals who are making a difference early on in their careers. Purdue’s 2025 honorees are Margaret Betz, managing director, The Data Mine in Indianapolis, Purdue University; and Alexis Martinez, associate, Dentons, a global legal practice.

Margaret Betz

As a Purdue student, Betz participated in the Statistics Living Learning Community, a precursor to The Data Mine, which she cites as one of the most influential experiences during her time at Purdue. After four years of playing a key role in building and scaling The Data Mine in West Lafayette, she led the launch of a new Data Mine location in Indianapolis in fall 2024.

In her previous role of managing director of corporate partners, Betz grew the corporate partners cohort of The Data Mine from one partnership in 2018 to more than 50 corporate partners and 800-plus students in 2023.

Betz leads a team that fosters team-based experiential learning projects throughout the full academic year for undergraduate and graduate students of all majors. She is changing the way students prepare for career readiness in a data-driven world, and how companies recruit and interact with talent.

An alumna of Purdue University (BS statistics‘18) and Indiana University (MS biostatistics), Betz is an active member in the American Statistical Association and her local Indiana chapter.

Alexis Martinez

Martinez is an attorney at Dentons, where she practices corporate and privacy and cybersecurity law in the Indianapolis office. Combining her education in management, law and cybersecurity, she advises businesses on compliance with various data privacy and cybersecurity laws, internal governance, risks assessments, and data breach mitigation and response, as well as general corporate advisement in daily operations.

Martinez is an alumna of Purdue University (BS strategy and organizational leadership ‘20) and Indiana University (MS cybersecurity and risk management, JD).

She serves as a co-chair for the International Association of Privacy Professionals Indiana KnowledgeNet Chapter, responsible for coordinating networking events and educational meetings that offer CPE credit. She is active with the Indianapolis Bar Association’s Pro Bono Committee and Hispanic Lawyers Division, and volunteers with the Re-Entry Assistance and Community Help program.
