Register up to 3 phone numbers to receive PurdueALERT text message notifications

Any Purdue University student, faculty or staff member may now register up to three phone numbers to receive PurdueALERT text message notifications.

PurdueALERT, the university’s emergency notification system, consists of multiple communication methods to help notify the campus community in the event of an emergency. Some of those other methods include all-hazard outdoor warning sirens, emails and social platform X (@purdueemergency). PurdueALERT also is used to communicate campus operational status changes, including weather-related closings or delays.

With this new feature, students may choose to include a parent’s cell phone number among the three numbers they can register. Faculty and staff may choose to add other family members.

“We understand that parents and family members may want to stay informed on what’s happening on campus, and the text messages provide a quick method of keeping them in the know,” said Jefferson Howells, director of Emergency Preparedness. “The Campus Emergency Status webpage will also be updated in the event of an actual emergency, which also may be a useful resource.”

Additionally, members of the West Lafayette community may opt in to receive messages for the Indianapolis location while members there may also opt in to receive emergency texts for West Lafayette.

The Office of Emergency Preparedness is part of the Administrative Operations organization. The organization supports the university by providing safe, reliable and transformative services. Encouraging the campus communities to sign up for emergency notifications is just one of the ways the organization helps power Purdue.
