Purdue announces seed funding awards for authors and launches new books initiative

Karen Plaut, executive vice president for research, has announced the awardees of the 2024 Elevating the Visibility of Research seed funding program for Purdue faculty authors.

In its second year, the program is a partnership between colleges and the Office of Research. Under this competitive grant program, faculty members authoring books, submitting major review articles or developing monographs can apply for seed funding of up to $10,000 to support these efforts.

“Through academic books, review papers and monographs, faculty members can extend the impact of their scholarship and elevate visibility of their work,” said Plaut. “We place a great deal of importance on supporting faculty producing books and review articles. They can open doors to new research collaborations for faculty as well as enhance Purdue’s reputation as a premier research institution.”

This year’s awardees represent 11 colleges or schools. The winning submissions represent work on 46 books and 29 review articles. A full list of awardees and their works is available on the Office of Research funding webpage.

Also, to further support book writing, Purdue announced the Purdue University Books Initiative.

Available to any Purdue author, this initiative will provide robust support for authors by way of substantive overload payments alongside individualized “concierge service” support in book design, editing and production. “Supporting scholarly publications by our faculty is very important,” added Plaut. “I encourage faculty members to consider authoring books, articles and monographs. This can be a highly rewarding professional and personal experience that also leaves a legacy.”
