More traffic expected near Purdue University in Indianapolis as I-65 is set for temporary closure

Beginning Tuesday (Oct. 15) at 9 p.m., Interstate 65 southbound in downtown Indianapolis will close for 16 days to facilitate patching and repair work. The closure is expected to bring more traffic near Purdue University in Indianapolis. The campus community is encouraged to be extra cautious and alert during this time.

I-65 southbound will close between West Street and Alabama Street, and interstate traffic will be required to exit at West Street. West Street forms the eastern border of the Indianapolis campus.

Members of the Indianapolis campus community are encouraged to remain mindful and safe during the closure. Motorists should plan ahead to take alternate routes if needed and allow plenty of time to get to campus. Pedestrians should be sure to walk on sidewalks, utilize crosswalks, adhere to traffic control devices and be cautious, especially when crossing West Street.

More information about campus travel safety is available in a recent Purdue Today article. More information about the closure is available on the Indiana Department of Transportation’s website.
