First Family to host second annual Easter egg hunt at Westwood; new task force to increase child care availability

Purdue President Mung Chiang and First Lady Kei Hui will host the second annual Easter egg hunt for faculty, staff and student families with children ages 12 and under at Westwood on March 30.

After a successful first egg-hunting event in 2023, the First Family is adding a time slot that will allow for one-third more families to join the fun. Three sessions will be held in the afternoon. In addition to an egg hunt for children, special treats and photo opportunities will be available during each session. 

If interest exceeds capacity, a lottery will be conducted among those registered. Please click here to register by March 20. Everyone who registers will be notified by March 25. Those selected will receive complete details about their session. 

“Our family is looking forward to hosting the second annual Easter egg hunt,” Hui said. “We were so grateful for the Boilermaker families that joined us last year, and we are excited to make this event even bigger and better this Easter, providing the opportunity for more Boilermaker families to create cherishable memories.”

The task force will work to identify ways to remove bottlenecks and fully utilize existing child care facility capacity to help meet the child care needs of faculty, staff and students. It will also assess ways to strengthen the adequacy of facilities and the outreach strategies employed to connect with families seeking child care.

Lilly Endowment Inc. recently announced a five-year, $25 million grant to a Purdue-led regional effort. A portion of this grant will support expansion and access to child care centers in a seven-county region, including Tippecanoe County and Greater Lafayette as part of the county.

“It has been one of my greatest and most humbling honors to serve the Purdue community, as well as the Greater Lafayette area over the past year,” Hui said. “We look forward to the new, amazing opportunities the child care task force will bring to our students, staff, faculty and neighbors.”
