Faculty and staff honors

– SooCheong (Shawn) Jang, professor of hospitality and tourism management in the Purdue University White Lodging-J.W. Marriott, Jr. School of Hospitality and Tourism Management, is the recipient of the 2024 Dr. Patrick J. Moreo Graduate Mentorship Award. Presented annually during the Graduate Education and Graduate Student Research Conference in Hospitality and Tourism, the award recognizes a demonstrated commitment to the field of hospitality and tourism’s graduate student education and mentorship, with an ongoing commitment to the development of hospitality graduate students. Their commitment extends from students’ time in academia and into their future careers.

– Mark French, professor of mechanical engineering technology at Purdue Polytechnic Institute, was recently presented with a lifetime achievement award from Purdue Manufacturing Extension Partnership for his dedication and impact on Indiana businesses. Through his work with the TAP40 program, which provides Indiana businesses up to 40 hours of consultive services from Purdue faculty, French has been the project manager for over 115 different industry projects.

– Two faculty members from the Mitchell E. Daniels, Jr. School of Business have been listed among the 2023 Most Read and Cited in the Academy of Management Annals. Ellen Kossek, the Basil S. Turner Distinguished Professor of Management, co-authored “Virtuality at Work: A Doubled-Edged Sword for Women’s Career Equality?” That paper was the fourth-most cited and 10th-most read by scholars. Another paper co-authored by Kossek, “Missed Connections Between the Leadership and Work-Life Fields: Work-Life Supportive Leadership for a Dual Agenda,” was the sixth-most cited. Jordan Nielsen, assistant professor of management, co-authored the ninth-most cited paper, “The Dynamics of Work Orientations: An Updated Typology and Agenda for the Study of Jobs, Careers, and Callings.” 

– Several Purdue University employees were honored by Greater Lafayette Young Professionals’ Top 10 Under 40 Awards program, which celebrates and promotes the contributions of young professionals in Tippecanoe County who demonstrate leadership and professional growth while making Greater Lafayette a better place to live. The six Purdue-affiliated winners, comprising more than half of the total awardees for 2023, are Ja’Niah Downing, Gicelle Garcia, Emily Jones, Allison Maldonado-Ruiz, Yadira Santiago and Steve Schlenk.
