Purdue police investigate missing signs, graffiti
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue University police are investigating the theft of several signs around campus.
On Oct. 25, a sign valued at $3,000 was reported to have been removed from the south side of the Purdue Armory. The sign is black, with the word "Armory" written in white raised letters. It is approximately 22 inches long and 12 inches high and is outlined in gold trim.
Subsequently, two signs were taken from the Lawson Computer Science Building. One sign had the wording "Mail Room" and the other "Port."
A sign, valued at about $3,000, also was reported stolen from the Latino Cultural Center, said Purdue police Lt. Fred Davis. The sign is worded "Purdue Latino Cultural Center" and is similar to the sign taken from the armory.
Theft is a Class D felony punishable by up to three years in prison and a maximum fine of $10,000.
Davis said police also have seen an increase in graffiti around campus consisting of white stenciled roses, animals and the words "Love Life." Indiana criminal code states if damage exceeds $2,500 those responsible can be charged with a Class D felony. This carries a maximum prison sentence of three years and up to a $10,000 fine.
