Purdue Alert test scheduled for Thursday canceled
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The test of the Purdue emergency notification system that was scheduled for Thursday (Feb. 3) has been canceled, said Ron Wright, director of Emergency Preparedness.
Purdue was to test the system at 10 a.m. Thursday, but Wright said the test was not needed because the system was activated to alert the campus community of a snow recess on Tuesday (Feb. 1).
The Purdue Alert system includes campus-wide e-mailing, text messaging, the Purdue home page, Face book emergency notification group and Boiler TV. Sirens also are part of the system if needed.
Wright still reminds the campus community to register to receive emergency text notifications. Those who have not done so can go to https://www.purdue.edu/securepurdue, click on "Change My Emergency Contact Number," enter your Purdue account name and password, click on "Emergency Contact Information," and enter your cell phone number. Scott Ksander, executive director of information technology networks and security, recommends that Verizon Wireless subscribers update the network information in their cell phones quarterly to help ensure they will receive the text messages. To do so, call *228 ("star" 228) and select option 2, "Update Roaming Capabilities." No action is necessary for other wireless carriers.
